WHO WE ARE

Atelier 233, founded in Toronto in 2024 as the artistic collective of Dodo Art Design Inc., specializes in monumental sculpture and design, 3D animation, set and prop fabrication, landscape design, and painting. With a strong academic foundation, the collective combines artistic vision with technical expertise, ensuring that creativity and precision coexist seamlessly. By employing advanced technologies such as 3D printing and scanning, Atelier 233 bridges classical sculptural practices with innovative, contemporary approaches. Through this interdisciplinary method, the collective has established itself as a dynamic hub for producing large-scale projects, unique artworks, and creative solutions for both the public and private sectors.

SELIN ALTINAY

She graduated with honors from Dokuz Eylul University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture, bringing a multidisciplinary background rooted in both traditional and contemporary production practices. She began her studies in Textile and Fashion Design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2008, gaining experience in fabric types, dyeing techniques, fashion design, and costume creation. In 2011, she paused her academic education to contribute to her family’s hospitality and construction ventures, where she further developed skills in project and team management, reporting, and budgeting.

In 2016, she returned to the arts and was accepted into Dokuz Eylul’s Sculpture program as the top-ranking student. Throughout her studies and after graduation in 2021, she worked professionally as a master sculptor on monumental sculpture commissions and participated in various museum projects focusing on hyperrealistic sculpture production. She also gained extensive experience in stage design, as well as prop and set construction for theatre plays, art festivals, and short film productions.

She is currently continuing her education in the 3D Animation program at Centennial College in Toronto, while actively expanding her skills in digital design and production. She is described by her professors and peers as organized, helpful, collaborative, and a natural leader.

In August 2024, she moved to Toronto, Ontario, and joined Atelier 233 at 233 Carlaw Avenue, where she serves as the lead artist.

She is also a proud member of IATSE 873.

BARIS DIRENC ALTINAY

Born in 1991 in Uşak, Turkey, Barış moved to Aydın in 1992 due to his family’s relocation. His father, İsmail Altınay, is a geography teacher, and his mother, Mukkaddes Altınay, is a retired nurse. His mother is of Makedonian Turkish descent, while his father is from Denizli, Turkey. He has one brother, Ayberk Altınay, who works as an architect in Kenzingen, Germany.

Growing up immersed in both Makedonian and Aegean cultures, Barış developed an early passion for sculpture, discovering the ancient cities of the Aegean region during his childhood. His late uncle, Mithat Altınay, ran a sculpture studio in İzmir and worked as a sculpture restorer in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions.

In 2010, Barış entered the Sculpture Department at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Fine Arts. Starting in his second year, he began assisting in workshops focused on monumental sculpture production. In 2012, he assisted Italian artist Bettino Mauro Francini at the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality International Wood Sculpture Symposium, where he had the opportunity to connect with artists from various countries. In 2013, he traveled to Rome, Florence, and Paris to study street sculptures and museums, gaining a closer understanding of classical European sculpture.

In 2016, Barış graduated first in his class with high honors. After graduation, he joined the opening team of Madame Tussauds Istanbul and received a month-long training in wax figure restoration and hyper-realistic painting from Petra van der Meer, Regional Studio Manager at Merlin Entertainment Midway Europe/Euroasia.

In 2017, Barış returned to İzmir, where he set up his own personal sculpture studio and began producing monumental sculptures for national and international organizations.

In 2021, he was selected as Head Realizer for the re-established İzmir Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres, leading a team of 13 professionals in the production of stage props and managing the studio.

In 2024, he was part of the design team that won the Terry Fox Monument competition organized by the City of Brampton.

In August 2024, he moved to Toronto, Ontario, and joined Atelier 233 at 233 Carlaw Avenue.
Barış Direnç Altınay is currently a member of CARFAC Ontario.

DOGUS GUZELKAYA

He was born in 1989 in Izmir, Turkey, and is now a Canadian citizen. After graduating from the Sculpture Department at Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Fine Arts, he gained experience in various fields of art and design. Theater, art galleries, and especially film productions have been important areas of work for him.

Over the course of nearly 14 years of professional experience, he has worked in sculpture, painting, and stage design. For the past five years, he has been a member of IATSE 873, taking on artistic responsibilities in numerous film projects while also playing an active role in team management. His colleagues describe him as both a creative and well-organized team leader.

He has also served in leadership positions within set decoration teams for large-scale productions, such as Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

While continuing his sculptural practice at Atelier 233, he has always maintained his technical skills in welding, mold-making, and casting. Thanks to his interdisciplinary approach, he successfully carries out projects of different scales and levels of complexity.

In 2022, he also founded Dodo Art Design Inc., through which he continues to provide both artistic and technical contributions, particularly to the film industry.
